Learn how TE partnered with an early stage company developing the next generation in minimally invasive neurovascular devices for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer in the US. Our customer, an early stage company is developing the next generation in minimally invasive neurovascular devices for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, one of the primary causes of stroke. As a start-up seeking to quickly prove out its idea and at the same time attract funding to support development, they sought a partner that could match their own drive for speed and ingenuity. Like successful stroke treatment in the clinical setting, response time and speed were vital in our customer's development process.

The company approached TE for our expertise in specialty wire design and development,  blended with our ability to provide quick-turn prototypes aligned with their funding activities. Our ability to contract with the customer from short-run prototype quotes to a full product development contract provided the flexibility required by the customer over the duration of the commercialization path. Optimized for navigation in the tiny arteries of the brain, the finalised design features a ground distal wire to a tiny 0.001'' diameter with exacting tolerances to 0.0002''. Unlike standard guidewire tips, this design also called for unique insulation and detachment elements on the distal section thereby pushing our design team to deliver one of the most challenging guidewire designs in our industry today.
